My first Round Ripple

I have been admiring the Round Ripple
blankets that Debi from the
hooks and yarns blog has been making. 
I especially like her
 scrappy round ripple blanket and
I couldn't wait to use the Carnival effects
stripe wool in blue to see the final effect.
I followed her link to the pattern from
angelcrafts.

so here is my favourite
round ripple pattern 
from Ideal Delusions blog.

I got to about round 17  
and decided that the waviness was too much to expect to be blocked out. 
So I restarted & made modifications as I
went. The photo isn't too good as it was
night time when I decided to frog it. 
On the left is the first attempt and on
the right is the 2nd. The yarn I used is a
 thicker 8ply and I may have been able to try  using a larger hook, but I wanted the stitches more compact. Anyway this is what worked for me. Modifications to the pattern are underlined. 
I use UK/AUS terms so.........treble = double crochet in American terms
Round 6: 
 sl st into next st, ch 3, 1 tr in next st, * 1 tr-ch 2-1 tr in next ch 2 sp, 1 tr in each of next 2 tr,
              skip next 2 sts, 1 tr in each of next 2 tr, repeat*, skip last 2 sts, join.

Round 7:  

 sl st into next st, ch 3, 1 tr in next 2 sts, * 2 tr-ch 2-2 tr (this is a large shell made of a double V-st)

 in next ch 2 space, 1 tr in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, 1 tr in next 2 sts, repeat * around,  skip last 2 sts. join.

 Round 8:

sl st into next st, ch 3, 1 tr in next 2 sts, * 1tr-ch 2-1 tr (this is a small shell or single V-st) in ch 2 sp,
1 tr in next 3 sts, skip next 2 sts, 1 tr in the next 3 sts, repeat* around, skip last 2 sts, join.

 Round 9:     

sl st into next st., ch 3, 1 tr in next 3 sts, * 1 tr-ch 2-1 tr (the small shell) in ch 2 sp,
1 tr in next 3 sts, skip 2 sts, 1 tr in next 3 sts, repeat* around, skip last 2 sts, join.

work in rounds, alternating 2 rounds of small shells & 1 round of large shells,  this helps the afghan to lay flat.

So here is my finished blanket.
I made the first 3 rounds
in navy blue and the last
round in a nice teal colour.
Altogether there are 50
rounds, it took aprox
4 x 100g  balls (6gms left)
(I had a few used balls) 
and measures 102cm
(41 inches) across.
I have started another in
the pink colourway which
I will work on during the
5hr train trip to visit my mum
