Purple ruffled crochet poppy

 The purple poppy is in Remembrance  for the animals who went to war, dogs horses mules pigeons etc. I got this pattern from AWAMO  (the Australian War Animal Memorial Org) and now i cant find the link so here is the pattern in Aus/Uk terms.  Using black Ch 4 sl st into 1st ch, ch3, 11tr into loop, sl st into beg ch3. Fasten off. Using purple 

Round 1) attach to any tr, ch3, tr into same stitch (2tr into each tr across) sl st into beginning chain. 

Round 2) ch3, 2tr into same st, (3tr into each tr across) sl st into beg chain. 

Round 3) ch3, tr into same stitch (2tr into each tr across) sl st into beginning chain. Fasten off measures 8cm across.

Sophies Garden

Wow, I just realised its been 5 months since my last post!
I've been busy crocheting and been quite productive.
I purchased some lovely Magic Light wool from
Ice yarns and decided to make a few
blankets using the Sophies Garden pattern.
I made 2 squares using the White/Grey/Blue/Purple
shade 33053 for premmie babies and I have 2 balls left,
it is such a soft acrylic yarn.
The first is a premmie blanket for  Little Wonder
at RPA hospital. I used only magic light, but when I
added a few extra rows of block stitch, to make it 55cm,
I used a matching purple yarn for the chain & sc rows.
For the 2nd square, I added several shades of purple
and a few extra rounds of trebles to make it 50cm.
This blanket will be for premmie babies at
Ronald McDonald house in Canberra.
I also made a larger blanket, this time using
Magic light in green pink blue purple yellow
shade 22034 (my favourite)
for the centre rounds up to round 22 and
created my own design for the extra rounds.

Christmas slippers 2012

The last few years I have made

my sister house slippers for Christmas.

She has been in Finland or UK at
Christmas, so they have been handy for
her in their winter. She likes that they are handmade & they are in her favourite
colour ........ purple. 

I also like to try out new patterns.

This year I finished off the partner for 

the Mountain Form Slipper 

that I started June 2011.
I had been feeling guilty that I had
"single sock syndrome" so I pulled out
the pattern and made some changes as
I went. I undid the Kitchener stitch finish
and reworked it so it was garter stitch.
I really like this pattern as I use one pair
of continuous needles instead of 4 double pointed.
With the Turkish wrap cast on and the
kitchener stitch there are NO seams,
so they are comfy as well.
The Ribbing makes them hug the foot too.
I just realised this is the only gift I made
this year, It's been a hectic year, maybe I
should get started on next years presents!

Same but different

I thought i would post a few photos showing some of the squares that are going into the new blanket I'm making. Some are next to squares from the 16 days of summer blanket, These two blankets are very different to what I usually make, but it is keeping me interested. I just thought it is interesting how different they can turn out using the same pattern, just different colour choices.  I think the first picture is the most dramatic, I tried to make the pink and white flower look like a franjipani, hope you like the pics.......I can't get the pics to behave!

16 Days of Summer Final Stages

 This week I made sample squares
so I could make a decision for
the blanket border.
As you can see the background
colour makes a big difference.
I didn't like the cream square
so much that I undid it before
I had finished. These squares
will go into a blanket that has
started to emerge from the
squares that have been
rejected from this one.
After sewing all the squares
together, I made a decision
on the border, it was helped
by the fact I that I managed
to find another ball of the
plum wool.
So here is a progress photo.
It hasn't been blocked & will
look much better after it's done.
I have another few rows to go
then I'll think about whether
 I will add a scallop edging.
I'm resting after having a
colonoscopy/endosocopy
on Friday. Feeling tired &
lethargic after the anaesthetic.
I'm hoping to be running on all
4 cylinders next week

Olympic Crochet

I am still working on the
16 days of Summer blanket.
I didn't get to see much of the
Olympics due to time zone difference
& my being too tired. We did watch
the cycling at 1am one morning.
The 1st photo shows some squares
I reworked. The top row are the
first version that I made & then
row 2 is the reworked version.
The top left square was too big & had
too much cream, the next I felt that
starting & ending the border with pale
mauve made it look a bit bland, I felt
the dark purple might frame it better.
The last square I made using
variegated wool & I wasn't quite
happy with it. The next photo shows
a pattern I haven't made before,
but I'm really happy with it.
It was hard to decide which colour to
use as the background, I wasn't sure
whether to use cream, dark purple or
green, I am happy with my final choice.
I still have some other squares that I
want to try, I will continue making
squares & will make a decision
which ones will go into the final blanket.
The "leftover" squares won't go to
waste, they will go into my next project!
And yes, there is a LOT of PURPLE in this blanket!
